Al Fahidi District overview
Beyond the glitz and the glamour of Dubai lies the older part of the city, namely the Al Fahidi Historic District. Within the Al Fahidi district are many historical buildings that are now home to craft shops, museums, cafes, art galleries and hotels.
Places to visit in the Al Fahidi District
Dubai Museum – The Dubai Museum is located in the Al Fahidi Fort, which was built in 1787. Here visitors can see archaeological artifacts and learn about how Dubai changed over time.
Arabian Tea House – The Arabian Tea House is the perfect place to relax with a cup of tea in the Al Fahidi District. The Arabian Tea House has a large, sunny courtyard with plenty of seating.
Sheikh Mohammed Center for Cultural Understanding – The Sheikh Mohammed Center for Cultural Understanding is an organization that teaches visitors about the culture and customs of the UAE. Many tours are available through the Sheikh Mohammed Center for Cultural Understanding including of the Al Fahidi district.
XVA Hotel & Café – The XVA hotel features 10 contemporary rooms and suites. The hotel also has an award-winning restaurant. Even if you aren’t staying at the hotel, the XVA café is worth visiting. It features freshly prepared food and a selection of beverages.
Majlis Gallery – The Majlis Gallery was founded in 1989. It is home to a permanent collection of art ranging from ceramics to photography. There are regular art exhibitions at the Majlis Gallery as well.
