Traditional cuisine in Dubai

Traditional food in Dubai consists of meat, grains and dairy products. Chicken, fowl, lamb, mutton and camel meat are featured in the cuisine. Seafood is also an important staple in Emirati cuisine.

Listed below are some of the traditional dishes and beverages you should try while in Dubai:

Arabic Coffee: This coffee is a mixture of roasted arabic beans, cardamon and saffron. The drink is also known as "Gahuwa Arabia"

Dates: There are over 40 different varieties of dates in the UAE. Dates are normally served are the beginning of a meal.

Chickpeas: Chickpeas are a staple of Emirati cuisine. They are often boiled with spices.

Balaleet: This breakfast dish is also served as a dessert or for late dinner. It is a mixture of sweetened vermicelli (or chinese noodles) and is mixed with raisins, eggs and spices.

Chabab: This pancake type dish is made up of flour, eggs, sugar and spices. It is usually served with a date syrup.

Khamir: This bread is usually served at breakfast with fresh cheese.

Machoos: This rice dish is seasoned with whole spices and includes meat, chicken or fish.

Saloona: Saloona is an Emirati stew. It consists of vegetables as well as meat, chicken or fish. It is usually served with white rice.

Dubai Food Festival

There are over 200 different nationalities living in Dubai which is reflected across the cuisine in the city. The Dubai Food Festival highlights the various cuisines in a citywide festival offering food-related events and promotions.
