Dubai Remains Home to World’s Busiest Airport for International Traffic
Dubai International Airport (DXB) remained the world’s busiest airport for international traffic in 2016. Annual traffic at the airport rose by 7.2%. Over 83 million people travelled through Dubai last year however, authorities at Dubai International Airport had hoped to see at least 85 million passengers. Paul Griffiths, Dubai Airports’ CEO stated that the airport hopes to serve 89 million passengers in 2017.
Currently, Atlanta and Beijing are the world’s busiest airports in terms of overall traffic. Griffiths stated that Dubai is, “"closing the gap on Atlanta and Beijing for the top spot in overall traffic." Authorities at Dubai International hope to overtake both Beijing and Atlanta airports for overall traffic by 2020.
