Middle East’s First Pay-Per-Minute Rental Car Service Launched in Dubai
The first pay-per-minute car rental service in the Middle East has been launched in Dubai. This car rental service allows drivers to book cars using an app on their smartphone or tablet. Cars can be rented for up to six hours at a time, costing between 40 and 50 fils a minute.
The project is licensed by the Dubai Road and Transit Authority and uses cars owned by rental agencies UDrive and Ekar. Pick-up points are located throughout Dubai including five main stations at Business Bay, Union, Ibn Battuta, Rashidiya and Burjuman Metro stations.
One of the goals of this new rental service is to make it easier for people to easily get to and from the metro and bus systems during the hot summer months in Dubai.
HE Mattar Al Tayer, RTA’s director general says, “The hourly car rental system provides bespoke alternative transit means for public transport riders in Dubai that goes with their needs and requirements, and offers them access to the best global practices of car-sharing of rented vehicles, besides providing highly efficient and cost-effective transit means.”
