Dirham is the name of the currency in Dubai and the rest of the United Arab Emirates. Dirham is also known as AED or Arab Emirate Dirham and often abbreviated to Dhs or DH. It comes in denominations of 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, 500 and 1,000 dirhams.
If you are traveling to Dubai from another country, it is best to familiarize yourself with the local currency and as to how you can obtain it at the most competitive rates.
Avoid buying local currency at the airport or if it is inevitable just exchange some to pay for your taxi going to the hotel and a bit of extra to keep with you. Hotel exchange rates are also not as good as those at exchange houses. Most banks offer better exchange rates than in a hotel or airport, but if you want to get the best conversion rate go to any of the super malls in Dubai they also have currency exchange provider that could give you the best exchange rate.
